Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Have you seen the tv show on Own? If not, are you insane? Do you not have a television set? There is no reason to not watch Love Is..

Point blank period.

Lets get into this post honey.

It’s a reason I’m the way I am about love. It’s mostly related to the Bible verse above. 1st Corinthians 13:4-8 is my absolute favorite and yeah, its my holy grail. I’ve based most of what I know about love off of that blueprint.

Surely Mara Brock Akil had Corinthians in mind when she created the hit tv show Love Is on the Own Network.

Chile, I’m all in.

Let me clarify.

This is my kind of show.

The storytelling and the show itself resonates with me in a plethora of ways. For starters she created this show with her husband, Salim Akil who is her business partner and its based off of their real life story. That’s the first thing that attracted me to it. Secondly, it’s speaks to who I am. How tired are we of seeing the stereotypical black male on mainstream tv playing the drug dealer, a straight up deadbeat and a loser? We are tired. It’s not our total experience and the way she writes the story is just gorgeous.

Yasir and Nuri are the characters.

They are unapologetically the shit.

Yes I said that. They are the shit.

I believe them.

I love them.

I want to be Nuri.

Hell, when I’m watching I kinda vamp into her anyway. I feel it all, as if it’s happening to me.

That fine black man Yasir, I want to have him for myself.

And… About Yasir, or the Actor that plays him, let’s just get into the magic that is Will Catlett. I’ve been a fan of him from his days on the now defunct Youtube series That Guy. Will is too believable in this role. Michelle Weaver who plays Nuri has a great chemistry with Will. They are basically two breakout stars who’ve captivated the hearts of thousands of viewers. Brand new folks making it do what it do.

Yuri and Nasir.

Unapologetically the shit.

Yes, I said it again.

There is something magical that happens when these two characters come onto the screen.

I’m going to be real transparent here for a moment. I weep from almost every episode. Listen to me now, I literally weep. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out why my reaction was that of tears. I later realized that this show made me remember love. I’ve been doing the most and had completely forgot. The gesture, the feeling, and the absolute beauty of love.

Lord help me!

I had forgotten what it’s like to be “in” love.

Dear God in heaven.

The way I’ve been carrying myself is the complete antithesis of what I’m not.

I am love. Deep feeling. Emotional to the 10th power, and oh my my my, I had forgot.

As a lover of writing, words and storytelling , this kind of show bends me in ways that I’ve always wanted to stretch but didn’t quite know how. This show is for us, by us and about us.

FUBU y’all.. Don’t worry, you’ll catch it later.

It’s bitter sweet because the next episode is the season finale and it seems as if we’ve only just begun. The good news is the show has already been renewed for a second season. Yay love!

Love Is.. the boom and the bip.

Love Is.. the creme de le creme.

Love Is a risk but the caveat is.. well it’s, love. In a world full of folly, It’s what we need today. It conquerors all. It heals all. Love never fails.

The blueprint.

Watch Love Is on Tuesday’s at 10 pm on the Own network.

Peace, love and more love,

If you are a true music lover, this flavored album will likely be the most glorious hour and four minutes that you’ve spent in a long time. Danger Zone, by the incomparable Judy Cheeks has arrived and it’s smoking hot. The contrast of Judy’s voice within the folds of this music is the right kind of vibe. The title track is an up-tempo dance number that will have you snapping your fingers and humming along as if you have no other choice but to walk into the “Danger Zone.”

The groove continues into the declaration-styled anthem, “Never Wanna Be Without Your Love,” where the richness of Judy’s voice is the distinct star of the track. The Stevie Wonder infused, “If I Were You,” is a petition to a lover and you can feel that in every note as she sings, “every day you try to question me about a love that your heart should see in me.” The range and pitch of her voice is phenomenal in all of these tracks and you begin to see just how seasoned and versatile Judy Cheeks is. “Hard Woman,” is an edgy track that proves the roar of a woman is like no other. With powerful conviction, it screams the freedoms of a hard woman that takes no mess! Whether the calming adoration of “Love Will,” which promises that it will give you light and change your mind, or the soul-stirring, foot-stomping, “Love Has Come Back,” there is no doubt that Judy Cheeks is a force to be reckoned with on the music scene. “So Close” leaps from the depths of Judy’s soul. Her voice is gorgeous on this romantic interlude that captures the essence of when love has been found in the purest form. She speaks of desire, and confidence, a boldness really that declares, “we are so close that I can feel you living inside me, feel you breathing through me, so close.” Other stand out tracks like, “Break Me Baby,” “Who’s That Girl, and “How Do You Do It,” are worth mentioning. There is something for everyone within the sixteen songs offered on this brilliantly executed project. The timing is perfect. The blend of Judy’s voice with the dynamics of her lyrics will minister and soothe your soul in a way that music has not done in a long time. This wave into the Danger Zone, is one worth riding.

You can link with Judy Cheeks for updates on Facebook and find her music on Itunes , Cd baby and other digital outlets.

As always- love, peace and good music,

What will be, will be… in a nut shell, it means no worries !

Dress up. Or dress down, anything can look classy. You just have to be yourself, and own it.

I get bored with my hair easily. It’s always a problem.

Seems like this scarf and bag are super old, yet, I’ll never tire of either.

Me and the coworkers dressed as the cast of Orange is the New Black and got rave reviews. Definitely one of the more fun looks.

Just churchin’

Sometimes it’s straight, sometimes it’s tightly coiled. I’m still natural and have been since March 2011. Yup, I’m coming up on my 4 yr anniversary. As a former queen of the relaxer, I am living proof that anyone can do this natural hair thing. Word !

Blow out again. I’ve been getting them on and off for about two years. I have to admit, I have some heat damage, and certain areas on my heart will not kink or knot up anymore. It’s not that important as hair has never been a gaga thing for me. I’m seriously considering big chopping again as I did in 2011.  Shown here.

I kept putting off doing a 2014 recap, and what do you know, here it is being February.
Oh well, better late than never.
I do hope you enjoyed some of my favorite looks and hairstyles from 2014.

I’m more than ready to create new ones for 2015.
Peace and love,

Dirty toilets.
One window.
duct tape.
Men in black.
Dingy walls.
Concrete floors.

All elements of last night’s Scandal.
I am still messed up off of that episode. I did not see that coming.
Not any of.
Auntie Shonda got me again.
Look, I was shook ok. The episode was dark and eerie. Terrifying really. And I couldn’t take my eyes off of it.

Within the first few minutes, I was already thinking,  this some ole Isis type ish..
It was one of the best episodes and also one of the most disturbing. It seemed to reminiscent of the world of today.
But I lives for Olivia who still managed to keep a pretty good weave and manicured nails while living in the bowels of hell.
Even in captivity, Liv can still serve up a read.
And then, she lost herself, and then she became the lone gladiator.

The cinematography and the writing was brilliant.
I can usually predict something. See something coming. But… not last night. That show had me spinning and still wondering who are these fools.

I’ve been obsessing and compulsing all day. So much, that I am about to watch it again, see if I missed anything.

What is Fitz gonna do?
What will Jake do? What will the 2 remaining members of Pope and Associates do?
Hell, let me stop it. I know that nobody will be able to spring her from this except Poppa Pope.

I can’t wait for next week.

Oh how miss talking to my Grandmother about Scandal. She would have been all up on this..

For now, I’ll just blog about it because I will explode otherwise. The Scandal weekend mashup. Until next week then.

Peace & Love
